REDS vs BLUES

Inaugural Reds vs Blues T20 Cricket Match.

The REDS vs BLUES T20 cricket match is the first of  many to come in the REDS vs BLUES series. The REDS vs BLUES will feature soccer, netball, cricket and softball matches in the future.

The mission behind the Reds vs Blues series of sports events is to add emphasis on growing the sport disciplines as well as continuous engagement with Maranatha Christian School Alumni. 

Who takes part in the Reds vs Blues.?

The Reds vs Blues is a mixture of current Senior team members at Maranatha Christian School and previous learners of Maranatha Christian School.

How the teams are selected.

In the same week of the event a draft night is held at Maranatha Christian School where two individuals are selected to captain the two sides respectively. 

The captains will draw a series of names out of the so called hat. 

The draw is done by positions. for example, Netball all the players who plays Center will be drawn at the same time, as soon as all these players have been allocated to a specific team the next batch of players in their respective  positions will be drawn. The Players are a mixture of Current and Past students.

The 2019 Reds vs Blues T20 cricket match could not have been scripted better. 

Thursday night 24 July 2019 The players, Friends and Staff gathered at Maranatha Christion School to complete the draft night for the upcoming match on the 26th of July at Barnard Stadium.

The Draft nigh was a huge success with all the players receiving their playing kit for the clash on Saturday. With the Old boys and current learners mingling and sharing stories the excitement grew for Saturday’s exciting clash.

Match day. 26 Juley 2019. The inaugural Reds vs Blues T20 match is is here. being middle of the winter it is was expected to be a chilly morning and so the match was scheduled for 9AM.

Reds won the toss and elected to bat first posting a solid total of a 132 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Keegan Smith previous 1st Team captain now Alumni scoring a blistering 55 runs of 36 balls, only to retire his innings giving more players opportunity to bat. And current Maranatha Christian School captain and left arm seam bowler Matthew Laishley ended with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs. 

The Blues started of slowly with the bat but accelerated at the end of the innings only to tie the 132 runs scored by the REDS. All the batsman and bowlers from both sides chipped in with bat and ball. Leaving the match tied, and in true T20 fashion a super over was to be the decider.

The Story book or modern day movie moment was not over yet. The Blues went in first for their allotted 6 balls scoring a total of 22 runs and confident to defend it. The Reds went in second with the first ball not yielding a single run it was looking like a long shot for the Reds. The last ball of the Super over it was clear the Reds could not win but with a great Blow Former head boy and wicket keeper Greame Knott cleared the ropes over square leg to tie the match again.

 

The match ended in a tie with the Reds and Blues sharing the opening T20 honors.

 

It is with great pleasure to say the Reds vs Blues campaign started of with great success new friendships built and old friendships reignited. We are proud of all our learners and alumni and grateful for the large number of support on the day from friends, family and staff.
